How Does the Broadband Light Photofacial Work?

Sciton’s BBL technology uses short, intense bursts of light to treat a broad array of skin conditions. This non-invasive solution creates smoother, younger-looking skin over the long term, with very minimal downtime. If you’re looking for a way to turn back the clock on skin damage while improving color, tone, and texture, a BBL photofacial may be your ideal solution.

As the most powerful pulsed light treatment available today, the BBL photofacial has become the gold standard. The energy from BBL can penetrate as deep as the dermis, triggering new collagen production for younger-looking skin. Meanwhile, the heat breaks down unwanted pigmentation – such as sunspots, age spots, and freckles – into tiny particles. The result is a smoother, tighter, and clearer complexion.

Who Is a Good Candidate for the BBL Photofacial?

At Trio Med Spa, we’ll customize your BBL photofacial treatment plan based on your aesthetic goals and the issues you want to address. Since Sciton’s technology has such a versatile range of capabilities, it can provide different intensity levels, making it an excellent solution for busy people who do not want to worry about taking time out of their schedules for recovery.

Phototherapy is ideal for people who want to address skin discoloration, and generally refresh, refine, and revitalize their skin tone and texture without surgery. To determine whether you are a good candidate for broadband light photofacials, we will meet with you in a pre-procedure consultation.

TIMELESS. AGELESS.
EXQUISITELY YOU.

Let’s take the next step together on your aesthetic journey.

What to Expect During and After Your BBL Photofacial

Your comfort is a priority for our entire team at Trio Med Spa. Before we begin your BBL photofacial, we will apply a cooling gel to your skin and provide you with protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the laser energy. Each pulse of the laser produces a mild stinging sensation, like snapping a rubber band against your skin. The number of pulses you receive will depend on your treatment area, but each appointment usually takes less than an hour.

Immediately following your photofacial, your skin will feel like it is mildly sunburned, with light redness, and tenderness for a few days afterward. Within a few days of treatment you will notice “peppering” which refers to tiny little specks of darker spots that resemble sprinkled pepper. This is normal and expected as freckles and hyperpigmentation may initially appear darker before fading away. It is important that you do not pick, scratch, or exfoliate the treated areas, as doing so could interfere with your body’s healing process. These little darkened spots will slough off naturally over a few days leaving you with a beautiful, glowing complexion.

Since laser-treated skin is more sensitive to sun damage, you’ll need to be diligent about applying sunscreen, wearing broad-brimmed hats, and avoiding excess sun exposure after your BBL photofacial. We recommend choosing a broad-spectrum sunblock with an SPF of at least 30, even when it’s overcast. If you would like, we definitely have some wonderful post procedure sunblocks for you to choose from.

Your results will vary depending on the concerns you are addressing and the settings your provider uses. However, most people notice a difference after two to four weeks.

Depending on your goals, you will likely need a series of BBL sessions to achieve your ideal results, plus maintenance appointments  to sustain them. Our specialists will develop a tailored plan after meeting you and learning more about your goals. At that point, we can also quote you an accurate price for your BBL photofacials in Chicago.

Yes, Sciton’s broadband light technology can help improve the skin anywhere on your body, including your neck, chest, arms, legs and hands.

At Trio Med Spa, we provide broadband light treatments throughout the year, but in the summer, we caution our clients to be especially careful about protecting their skin from the sun both before and after treatment. Because the laser is a pigment hunting laser, we cannot treat “tan” skin and since a BBL photofacial will make your skin more sensitive to damaging UV rays, you can undo your results by getting a sunburn post treatment. At your complimentary consultation, we will provide you with detailed instructions on how to plan, prepare for and care for your skin both before and after treatment.
